Water Cleanup and Oil Engineering

Oil and gas jobs are plentiful in many parts of the world, and the workers on the Deepwater Horizon oil rig were among hundreds of thousands of employees working at oil jobs. While the April 20, 2010 explosion that killed 11 workers and led to a three-month oil spill halted many offshore oil projects, in the area surrounding the disaster some new positions appeared: water cleanup jobs.

Removing the leaked oil from the water will require:

  • Laborers
  • Skimmers
  • Boat captains and maritime workers
  • HAZMAT workers of various levels
  • HAZWOPER operators
  • Communications specialists
  • Marine biologists

and more oil engineering professionals, including professional engineers, to help make sense of the mess and to find an environmentally-safe way to mitigate the damage.
