The "cash for clunkers" program in 2009 helped stimulate car sales in the United States and was so successful that Congress extended funding for the program. As a result, Congress also allocated funds to be distributed to the 50 states for a similar appliance program, to help sell freezers, dishwashers, washers and refrigerators. In Massachusetts, the program is called the Mass Save Great Appliance Exchange and residents can receive up to $675 in rebates. Learn how the "cash for appliances" program works in this article.
Mass Save Great Appliance Exchange
This program offers rebates for:
- freezers
- dishwashers
- washing machines
- refrigerators
That were purchased by Massachusetts residents between April 22, 2010 and May 5, 2010. The window of opportunity for the Mass Save Great Appliance Exchange is a very short two weeks, so it's critical for MA residents to do their research in advance and purchase during this time frame only in order to receive an appliance rebate.
Cash for Clunkers for Appliances in Massachusetts

Act Now for Appliance Rebates
Households can receive one rebate per appliance, so one family could purchase a refrigerator, freezer, washer and dishwasher during the cash for clunkers appliance program time frame, have their old appliances removed, fill out and submit the forms, and receive a total of $675.
The money for the Mass Save Great Appliance Exchange is limited and distributed on a first-come, first-served basis, so there is no guarantee that purchasing a qualifying appliance in Massachusetts will result in the appliance rebate.
